MP Ahmed Shiyam, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) – Naifaru Constituency, told reporters yesterday that the leadership of the party started working with former president Mohamed Nasheed’s The Democrats (TD) on the orders and advice of former president and the top leader of PPM, Abdulla Yameen.

Speaking to reporters after holding talks with TD yesterday, Shiyam said that their first joint-political activity will be held on July 3.

PPM and TD have been in talks for quite sometime now after putting aside their major differences where PPM believed that TD was “not pro-religion and not patriotic”.

According to PPM, the July 3, joint-political rally is a “great gathering at the corner” – traditionally members of the public for a cause meet at spacious corners of housing blocks in capital Male’.

Shiyam said that this activity is part of the opposition’s efforts in ending the rule of the present government. Neither PPM nor TD disclosed the location for the gathering.

In yesterday’s joint press briefing, TD’s MP Ali Azim said that “they have no obstacles in working with the largest opposition party, PPM”.

Azim told the reporters that “political circumstances play a major role in suggesting to leaders when to work with who”.
