When complaints against the preliminary list of recipients of land plots - planned to be granted to permanent residents of Male’, under the Binveriya (let people own land) Housing Scheme, are completely handled, the qualifiers’ roll that was published on Monday will be foolproof, says the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

Mohamed Aslam, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, commented today on the preliminary list of recipients amid ongoing allegations that an Indian citizen had been included as a qualifier for the grant-program.

He further said that his ministry has noted the glitch and that “it will be taken care of”. He said that the purpose of the publication of the preliminary list is to address public grievances and complaints before the list is finalized.

Under the Binveriya Housing Scheme the ministry received a total of 19,857 applications last year.

Among the thousands of applications received by the government, 12,794 applicants qualified for the grant-program according to the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

However, according to the preliminary list of 12,794 qualifiers, “10,314 applicants will be granted land plots for living among other purposes”.

The Binveriya Scheme is the largest such program executed in the history of the country.
