The extraordinary session of the Parliament conducted today has ended without progress.

The extraordinary sitting was scheduled at the request of 29 Parliament Members from the ruling MDP.

After opening today's sitting, the presiding MP Hassan Afeef spoke about the changes in the parliamentary committees following the departure of the Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed and Hithadhoo Central Constituency Member Ahmed Rasheed from the MDP. Therefore, the changes in the committees will be sent back to the members to give them the opportunity to propose amendments, said Afeef.

Followed by, the sitting concluded without any progress.

Out of all the sittings of the parliament’s second session, most sittings scheduled in June were not progressed as the Parliament was at a deadlock.

Majority of the halt was provoked after 13 pro-President Nasheed MPs left the MDP leading changes to the standing committees of the Parliament. For which there was no agreement among the members.
