Former President Mohamed Nasheed, invites former President Yameen to nominate a joint candidate and to work together to win the upcoming presidential elections.
President Nasheed made such announcements while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of The Democrats Party, which he is leading.
At the event, Nasheed, who used to make statements against President Yameen, spoke highly praising Yameen.
Speaking about the upcoming presidential election, President Nasheed said various studies are being conducted on the election. He said that those studies have shown that many have still not decided about the upcoming elections.
Nasheed said 55 percent of the people have not decided to whom to support while President Solih is repeatedly saying he will contest the election. Therefore, it shows that there is no support for President Solih, said Nasheed.
Speaking highly of former President Yameen, Nasheed said he was never amused to see someone held imprisoned. He said that apart from ruling the country, Yameen has done so much for the country.
After praising former President Yameen, Nasheed presented his request in very simple and charming terms. He suggested to nominate a new candidate, rather than competing and work together to win the upcoming presidential elections.
This is the first time that President Nasheed has offered to work with President Yameen. According to reports, discussions are underway between the opposition PPM and President Nasheed.
