President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be appointing “a person to the position” of Chief Executive Officer of Local Government Authority (LGA) soon, says the Spokesperson at the President’s Office Miuvaan Mohamed.

The official made the statement amid growing public concerns over the delay in appointing a person to the position of CEO that was vacated by Fathmath Afshan on May 18.

Since her resignation from the authority, Director General of LGA Shamoon Adam, is reportedly shouldering the responsibilities of the position until President Solih appoints an individual to the post.

Spokesperson Miuvaan did not give a specific date for the pending appointment that must be made by President Solih according to Decentralization Act.

Former CEO after her resignation from the post told local media that she vacated the position “due to personal reasons”.

Our reporters note that, after her resignation from the authority, she’s seen in the public, contributing to the making of The Democrats, a brand-new political party that is fulfilling the official requirements of formal registration at the Elections Commission of Maldives.

Her husband, Hussein Amr was fired from the position of the Managing Director of State Trading Organization PLC as he publicly supported and promoted the “Fikuregge Dhirun (Revival of a Thought) Movement” - the prelude to The Democrats, within ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) that was headed by former President of MDP and the Speaker of the People’s Majlis Mohamed Nasheed.
