Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has delivered six speedboats to Huvadhoo Atoll to start high-speed ferry services in the atoll under the present government’s “Integrated National Ferry Network Project”.

MTCC’s RTL (Raajje Transport Link) ferries reached Thinadhoo, the atoll’s administrative capital, yesterday according to the company’s Chief Executive Officer Adam Azim.

“RTL speedboats required for Huvadhoo Atoll under the project of establishing high speed connectivity across the country that was initiated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, reached Thinadhoo today”, CEO Azim tweeted yesterday.

Local community in Thinadhoo reportedly celebrated the arrival of the boats with delight.

MTCC says that the boats sent to Thinadhoo are in good condition as are the vessels being utilized in Phase One of RTL (Zone One) that connect forty-one islands of Haa Alif, Haa Dhaal and Shaviyani atolls.

The boats sent to Thinadhoo are larger in hull-size than the vessels presently in use elsewhere. The new design allowed more cabin space in the vessels, said MTCC.

Azim said that from 13th to 19th of this month, passengers in Huvadhoo will enjoy free transport services on the boats. The free-rides will end on July 20, says MTCC.
