Launching a brand-new building, housing the magistrate court in Huraa island in Kaaf atoll, Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan says that the powers of the court system originated from the people.

He told the judges attending the ceremony in the island yesterday that, “the powers with which judges establish fairness and justice originated from the people”.

He told the attending judges and staff members, that, “as are the common people required to respect the court system, judges must also contribute in maintaining reverence by their conduct while being principled”.

Further, the Chief said that judges must figure out ways for cutting costs for those who seek justice through their benches. He said that, “if the cost of seeking justice grows, there will be obstacles and delays for seekers, resulting in delayed justice”.

He noted that there are attorneys working free for defendants and other seekers of justice in Maldives and thanked them for their charitable contribution to the society in the field which in the Chief’s words, “immensely helps those who cannot afford legal services”.
