Umar Naseer, independent presidential candidate and former Minister of Home Affairs under President Abdulla Yameen, has said that Maldives should be moved closer to the Islamic sacred laws to save her from national deterioration.

Umar who is touring to Vaavu Atoll in his presidential campaign, speaking to the local community in Keyodhoo yesterday, said that “the Maldives is presently undergoing national deterioration due to its migration from the principles of Islam”.

“National problems can (only) be solved through application of principles of the Islamic sacred laws”, said Umar.

Sharing his thoughts on rampant abuse of narcotics among the youth, Umar offered capital punishment as the ultimate solution. He said that “there is no other way around”.

Umar told the island community that he was deeply troubled to witness the destruction of social fabric in the country.

“These national problems can be solved by a warm-blooded president”, Umar said. If elected to office, he said that “he will change the course of the country”.

Maldives is ruled by parliamentary laws made in the People’s Majlis that according to the constitution of the country should not contradict the fundamentals of Islam.
