The Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure received eight-hundred complaints against the preliminary list of recipients of the “Binveriya (land owner)” Housing Scheme when the deadline for filing grievances expired yesterday.

Akram Kamaludeen, Minister of State at the ministry, said there were no significant complaints against the preliminary list among the eight-hundred filings. However, he said that the filings were mainly about seeking information.

He also said that after completely assessing the grievances, the preliminary list of the land-grant scheme might change.

“Final list of the recipients will be published after processing joint applications. Work on processing joint applications is going on,” said Akram.

The preliminary list of qualifiers for the land-grant scheme was published by the government on June 26.

Under the scheme that was launched by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government, permanent residents of Male’ who qualify for the grant scheme will receive land plots in Male’ area.

Half of the land reserved for the grant program is marked in Hulhumale’. According to the government, the rest of the land required for the scheme will be reclaimed from Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru lagoons.

Recently President Solih said, “approximately 2000 from Gulhifalhu, 2000 or more from Giraavaru new reclamation and 2000 or more from Hulhumale’, altogether 6,200 land plots will be granted from the three locations”.

President Solih also said that his government’s plan was to handle all the complaints received against the preliminary list of qualifiers for the Binveriya program as soon as possible and finalize the list enabling the commencement of delivering the land plots to their rightful owners in August.
