MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, the leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), is reportedly detained in Singapore until he pays US$14m to Hilton International Manage (Maldives) Pvt Ltd.

MP Siyam is seeking legal services in Singapore to return to Maldives. Reports say that authorities in Singapore prohibited him from leaving the country on Monday.

Hilton International sought damages from MP Siyam’s Sun Travel & Tours alleging wrongful termination of contract submitting the matter to the Singapore International Arbitration Centre in 2015.

Singapore International Arbitration Centre ordered MP Siyam’s Sun Travel & Tours to pay Hilton International damages on 17th August 2015.

Subsequently, MP Siyam filed a counter-claim in Maldivian Civil Court against Hilton International and won US$16m. However, the High Court canceled the lower court’s decision while upholding the 2015 decision of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC).

Reports say that MP Siyam paid little in favor of SIAC’s order before he entered Singapore on Monday.
