MP Qasim Ibrahim; the leader and the presidential candidate of the Jumhooree Party (JP), says that nations approve of Quran burnings “deliberately to provoke the Muslim world”.

MP Qasim strongly condemns such provocative acts of government approvals. His harsh condemnation follows recent Swedish approvals for the desecration of the Quran near the Iraqi embassy in Sweden and another event organized on Thursday to defile the sacred book.

“I strongly condemn and denounce the Swedish authorities for repeatedly and irresponsibly granting official permits to extremists, allowing them to burn and desecrate copies of the Holy Quran. The recent incident, where two individuals stomped on and kicked the Holy Quran outside the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm, further underscores the seriousness of this matter”, MP Qasim tweeted yesterday.

Also, he said, “These actions can only be perceived as a deliberate provocation, causing profound emotional distress to millions of Muslims globally.”

MP Qasim was referring to an event in Stockholm planned by Salwan Momika, a 37-year-old Christian Iraqi refugee in Sweden, who had burned a copy of the sacred book on June 28 near the Iraqi embassy in Sweden.

Following both attempts of provocations, several Muslim countries summoned Swedish ambassadors and protested against the approvals of the Swedish authorities that claim that “the provocateurs were exercising their universal right to freedom of expression.”
