Jumhooree Party’s Presidential Nominee MP Qasim Ibrahim says that if the intellectual community in Maldives decides that he is not fit for the office of the president, he would pull out of the presidential contest.

He said that the intellectual community should make a comprehensive decision over the question of the best candidate for office among all who are contesting in the September presidential race to convince him of the withdrawal.

In a press conference held on Sunday at M. Kunooz – Jumhooree Party’s Head Office, MP Qasim suggested that the intellectual community and professionals working for the local media could make such an assessment and publish their conclusions and judgment.

If he fails in such a judgment, he told reporters that he would pull out of the race and back the person who scores the highest marks in the comprehensive assessment.

“I suggest you (media professionals) and the intellectual community in the nation make a comprehensive assessment of all the candidates running in the September 9 presidential election. The assessment should include all relevant questions on the strengths of all the candidates and points must be given based on an acceptable scale. Points earned by all candidates on all the questions should be given separately to check who scored the highest marks. If I fail that assessment, I do not want to continue in this race. That means that there is a better candidate. I would congratulate the candidate and back him in the race”, said MP Qasim.
