Former President Abdulla Yameen rejects the decision of the joint senates of the PPM-PNC Coalition that voted on Sunday not to boycott the September 9 presidential election.

President Yameen soon after the Supreme Court of the Maldives blocked him from running for office on Sunday, ordered the leadership of PPM-PNC to boycott the election. However, the joint senates of the coalition rubbishing Yameen’s order voted to take part in the contest.

President Yameen on Sunday communicated to the leadership of the coalition his rejection of the vote taken by the joint senates of PPM-PNC in a handwritten note sent from Maafushi Penitentiary through his wife Fathimath Ibrahim. In the note, he repeated that his order to the leadership of the coalition remained unchanged.

Yameen’s wife sent the note to the leadership through its Interim Head Abdul Raheem Abdulla who upon receipt immediately shared the contents of the message with the top leaders of the PPM-PNC Coalition.
