Former Secretary General of SAARC Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed says that she sided with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as she had figured out that he was the most capable candidate in the presidential race.

Saeed who served as the Attorney General from 2008 to 2009 in the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed – presently the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, made the competence comparisons of the presidential candidates in a campaign rally held in Addu City on Friday.

In the rally held by the ruling MDP, she pointed out three main reasons why she had sided with President Solih.

One among them was President Solih’s selection of a person who had originated from Addu as his running mate. MDP’s parliamentary group leader MP Mohamed Aslam is contesting on the same ticket as President Solih’s Vice Presidential candidate.

“I assure you that you cannot find someone from Addu or elsewhere who has a better service record. He has surpassed everyone in serving Addu City”, said Saeed in the Friday night rally.

The second reason for siding with President Solih is that “he is the most patient and non-reactionary leader who is proving that he can balance all factions in ruling the country”.

She warned the audience that if President Solih loses the September 9 election, PPM would form a government of aggression.

“They will put people in prison. They will restrict people from traveling overseas. They will freeze people’s bank accounts”, Saeed warned on the dangers of voting PPM-PNC Coalition to office.

The third and final reason why she is campaigning for Solih was the artful and successful management of the country during the Covid-19 Pandemic’s emergency by the President.

“President Solih’s wisdom prevented the Maldives from going bankrupt”, said Saeed.
