The Minister at the President’s Office Ahmed Sameer sees (exceptional) benevolence in President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the latter is exercising bold tactics to neutralize the housing crisis in Malé-region which includes granting land plots and increasing the number of flats built by the government.

Presently the government is allocating land plots to qualified recipients of the Binveriya (land ownership) Scheme. Also, the government recently published the final list of recipients who had qualified for state-funded apartments.

“You are witnessing a President whose rule corresponds to the true feelings of the public. You are witnessing (exceptional) benevolence in President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih”, Sameer tweeted on Tuesday.

Over the past three decades, no government had attempted to grant land in Malé-region. Traditionally Maldivians lived on State-granted land plots and they have been expecting several governments to revive the culture for 36 years now. With his Binveriya program, President Solih ends the long wait of the permanent residents of Malé-region returning them to the country’s centuries-old tradition of land-grants.

Under the Binveriya land-grant scheme, the government allocated 2,200 land plots in Hulhumalé, 2,000 plots in Gulhifalhu, and 2,000 plots in Giraavarufalhu. The President’s Office on July 2 said that land reclamation in Giraavarufalhu was progressing achieving a milestone of 20 hectares of reclaimed land up to the date.
