MP Yasir officially joined MDP on Tuesday at Salt Lake Café. MP Yasir after signing the official documents required for joining the party, passed them to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih who attended the event.
In addition, several other political figures who had departed from The Democrats, including Mayor Mohamed Athif and members of Kulhudhuffushi City Council joined the ruling MDP in the same ceremony headed by the president.
The ruling MDP lost control of the city council when the members who rejoined the party defected to The Democrats in May.
MP Yasir was among thirteen parliamentarians who departed MDP to form The Democrats.
The Elections Commission of Maldives granted political-party status to The Democrats in mid-July.
