The Indian-funded developing Hanimaadhoo Airport will be taken over from India under the Jumhoory Party government, says the JP Presidential candidate and leader, Gasim Ibrahim.

Gasim said this while speaking with supporters at Hirimaradhoo Island for his ongoing presidential campaign. In his speech, Gasim raised many questions about the handover of Hanimaadhoo Airport to India.

The significance of a nation's independence and foreign policy cannot be overstated, said Gasim. Gasim firmly denounced the Indian troops' presence in the nation and vowed to terminate it. He said that the JP government would ensure that the sovereignty and independence of the country would be protected and no other country's troops would be allowed to stay in the country.

Speaking further, Gasim assured that in his regime, Hanimaadhoo Airport will be under the control of the State, and international flights will also land there. He reaffirmed no foreign troops to be stationed in Hanimaadhoo.

Gasim also criticized the government for maintaining an unusual relationship with India and taking loans from India to the extent that it threatens the sovereignty of the Maldives.
