President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says that he aims to balance the annual government budget by the end of 2028.

As part of his “Happy and Peaceful Maldives” presidential campaign President Solih on the island of Gaadhiffushi in Thaa Atoll today said that the government would generate a 50 billion Rufiyaa revenue in 2028.

He said that the government in office would balance the 2028 annual budget and propose a surplus spending bill for 2029 for passage in the People’s Majlis.

President Solih who is presently touring Thaa Atoll said that his election pledges are meticulously calculated and planned. He said that he has already started raising finances for his pledges in anticipation of winning a second term in office.

“We aim to propose a balanced and a surplus budget in 2028 (for 2029)”, said President Solih.

He said that to discipline the Covid-19 tormented economy, he needed three more years in office. “This is the reason why I'm running for a second term in office”, said President Solih.
