The Maldives Police Service (MPS) sends its forces to islands across the country to keep peace and security during voting on September 9 in this year’s presidential election.

Police security teams started departing to Northern islands in the early hours of Tuesday. MPS says that security forces would start leaving their headquarters in the capital Malé to Southern Atolls on Thursday.

MPS said that the security establishment would be present in all the islands where ballots are cast during the voting. MPS said that additional forces would be put on standby in all the atolls while ballots are cast.

MPS also said that their security personnel are trained and informed to keep calm in the elections as required by the law.

MPS said that the operational name of the activity is “Operation Blue Wave”. Police have made all advance preparations to keep calm during the voting.

The commander of Operation Blue Wave is Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shakir and his deputy is Superintendent of Police Ahmed Muslim.
