President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says that if elected to office for a second term this month, he will retire from politics at the end of his term in 2028.

President Solih told the host of a talk show aired by Raajje TV today that even after retiring from politics, he will be serving the country in other areas. He firmly said that after 2028 he will not be seen publicly engaging in politics.

“After a second term in office, I will not be seen in politics in any way. But I’ll be serving the people in other areas”, President Solih told the host.

President Solih said that his freedoms had been restricted since he took office in 2018.

“I did not imagine that this post would restrict my freedoms to this extent. I mean, I'm not allowed to do things on my own. For example, if I wanted to go somewhere before becoming the president, I would simply take a scooter and drive it to the location on my own”, said President Solih.

When he was asked about his daily schedule, President Solih said that he had formed a habit of performing night prayers and reciting the Holy Quran until the time of early morning prayers. He also said that sometimes after the night prayers, he would study the exegesis of the Holy Quran.

He said that during the ongoing presidential campaign, he sleeps for four hours a day.

Speaking about his wife on the show, President Solih said that their opinions on matters differ sometimes.

President Solih also said that the differences of opinions between the couple help him vastly in making decisions as the First Lady is more thoughtful on some of the subjects that they differ.
