The President of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed has asked the Secretary General of Parliament to make arrangements to meet the imprisoned former President Yameen in Maafushi, said Nasheed today.
After a luncheon with the members of the Democrats, President Nasheed said he wanted to meet with President Yameen to ask for his assistance in taking a vote on the system of government.
“I want to ask President Yameen to bring about a change in the system of government before the 25th. What he thinks about the vote and if we can help.” President Nasheed said.
President Nasheed added that the opposition PPM has not opposed the Democrats' proposals, however they object to signing an agreement.
Further speaking, President Nasheed said it was impossible for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to win the elections second round given the number of votes needed. Therefore, the most important thing now is for President Solih to work with the Democrats to bring about the necessary changes to the Constitution, he said.
