The leader of the Jumhoory Party from the government coalition parties, Gasim Ibrahim, calls to stop scolding neighboring countries.
Speaking at Raajje Tv, Gasim Ibrahim said that by scolding neighboring countries like China, the people of the Maldives will face all the consequences from it. Gasim said that there will not be any benefits from scolding neighboring countries. He added that it is the Maldivian government who took loans from both India and China.
Furthermore, Gasim highlighted that there could be fear of losing partnerships and support from neighboring countries like India and China if we continue to scold them while some people have thought that by scolding they will get scared and support more. Gasim condemned the acts of Parliament members working against the government and scolding neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, on different occasions, the Speaker of the Parliament has been very vocal against debt to China. Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, has described the loan support by China as a debt trap. On the other hand, opposition political parties have been vocal against debt to India. Opposition members have criticized the government for partnership agreements with India accusing that it will affect the sovereignty of the country.
