It is a pity that there is no law to properly protect the rights of workers, the Parliament Member for S. Maradhoo constituency, Ibrahim Shareef stated today.

Speaking in Parliament, MP Shareef said the Industrial Relations Bill is important to build employment industries on a strong foundation. It is regrettable that there is no law to properly govern the workers' unions in the Maldives, he said.

Shareef said that there is no required legislation to ensure that the relationship between industrial workers, various economic activity bodies, protection of rights, and workers in their jobs is within adequate legal footing. At the same time, he regretted that the bill had been introduced for many days but had not reached a vote.

In addition, no parliament has passed a law to determine workers' rights and wages and to ensure and protect their rights in the working environment, he said.

Therefore, Shareef asked the MPs to put aside political differences and cooperate in passing the bill soon.
