The no-confidence motion against the Speaker of the House of Representatives has been scheduled for next week Sunday.

The resolution, signed by 49 MPs, said the Speaker was putting his interests first in scheduling issues. The motion also stated that President Nasheed is running the parliament illegally.

According to a letter sent to all Parliament members, signed by the Secretary General of the Parliament, no-confidence motion against the Speaker of the Parliament is scheduled for the 29th of October.

The parliamentary administration had earlier said that the notice of no-confidence motion was sent to President Nasheed and the members of parliament on the 12th of this month as per the rules of parliament.

The no-confidence motion against Speaker Nasheed and Vice-Speaker Eva Abdullah was moved in June last year. However, the MDP withdrew the cases to facilitate the Democrats' support in the second round of the presidential election.

According to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, the Speaker and Vice-Speaker of the Parliament can be removed from office by a majority of the members present and voting. There are 87 members of parliament, and if all members are present and vote, 43 votes will be needed to remove President Nasheed from office.

There are currently 56 MDP members in parliament.
