Minister of Communication Science and Technology, Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal enraged by the decision of the no-confidence motion taken against him at the Parliamentary Group (PG) of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
The Parliament majority holder and the current government ruling party MDP has approved the no-confidence motion submitted against Minister Maleeh, during the recent Parliamentary Group meeting held today. It was approved unanimously by all the members present at meeting.
Minister Maleeh has described the decision by MDP PG as a nail to their own coffins. He said that this this a goal against the freedom of speech supported by MDP members. Maleeh has said he never mortgaged his tongue to the ruling party, adding that this is under a tricky plan to dismiss party coalition ministers. Maleeh also warned that any given time the super majority can also turn into a minority.
Minister Maleeh's enraging comments were directed to the ruling party, following its Parliamentary Groups decision to approve the no-confidence motion against him.
The no-confidence motion against Minister Maleeh was submitted by the Parliament Member for Galolhu Dhekunu, Mr. Mickail Naseem. The letter of no-confidence motion reads that Minister Maleeh has not prepared any guidelines for the communication authority, required under the telecommunication law within the two years in office and he has not supported the work of the Ministry staff and political appointees at the Ministry as well.
It was submitted following the Ministers statement regarding the Parliament members on a TV programme. Speaking at the TV program, Minister Maleeh has said that it is not the responsibility of the parliament members to comment on the policies of the government. Minister Maleeh also said that as lawmakers, parliament members should not try to run the government, although some parliament members think that they are the ones running the government.
His statement has enraged MDP parliament members and caused a lot of public backlashes.
