According to former President Yameen Abdul Gayyum, members of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) will not have to register for the People’s National Congress, PNC, the party presided over by the President-elect Dr. Mohammed Muizzu.

Speaking at a meeting with PPM members yesterday, President Yameen said that the PPM and PNC are two parties he formed on the same basis. Therefore, no PPM member will not have to fill out forms for the PNC, he said.

With this government relaxing President Yameens' house arrest, yesterday, he visited the PPM office and held a meeting with party members. However, most of the PPM leadership did not attend the meeting.

Following the meeting, the head of President Yameen’s legal team and former vice president, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, quoted President Yameen on social media as saying that the PPM is the strongest political party and the aim should be to tell the younger generation about the party's policies and sell its ideology.

At the same time, the President said that the PPM should work very hard to win the parliamentary elections, Jameel further detailed.

“No party member has to fill out forms for another party or the PNC. They are two parties of the same ideology," referring to President Yameen Jameel said.
