The Finance Ministry today said the budget for next year was sent to Parliament yesterday.
The 2024 budget is scheduled to be presented in Parliament today. However, Finance Minister Ahmed Ameer has refused to appear in Parliament to present the budget.
According to reports, the Finance Minister did not appear in Parliament today on the advice of Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath. The Attorney General is believed to have advised him not to attend the Parliament, considering the no-confidence motion against the Speaker a priority.
Today is the last day to submit the proposed state and supplementary budgets for next year. According to Article 32 of the Finance Act, the estimated state budget for an annual year must be submitted to Parliament two months before the beginning of the year. Therefore, today is the last day to submit the budget.
