A budget of MVR 61 million has been allocated for the upcoming parliamentary elections
The Finance Ministry has allocated a total of MVR 1.15 billion for the Election Commission in the state budget for next year. Of this, MVR 61 million has been set for the parliamentary elections and MVR 1.5 million for the by-elections of women's committees.
There are six new constituencies to be appointed to parliament next year. These include one seat for the Baa Atoll, one seat for the Kaafu Atoll, two seats for the Male' City, one seat for the Gaafu Alifu Atoll, and one seat for Addu City. Including the new constituencies, a total of 93 members will be appointed to parliament next year.
The parliament now consists of 87 constituencies.
