The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has allocated funding to accelerate the Velana International Airport project, the President-elect's office said.

According to Mohamed Firzul, the Spokesperson of the Transition Committee, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has allocated $79.8 million (MVR1.2 billion) to accelerate the Vellana International Airport project. The funds were arranged during President-elect Dr. Muizzu's informal visit to Abu Dhabi on an invitation of the UAE government.

Firzul said the airport project is the most important project for the economy. That is one of the top priorities of the President-elect, Firzul said.

"The President-elect has asked the UAE government to provide the money in the Abu Dhabi Fund as part of his visit to the UAE," Firzul said.

Meanwhile, MVR 1 billion has been included in the state's budget for the Velana International Airport project.
