President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has raised concerns over the Velana International Airport development project. He has stated that most of the work under the airport development project is still yet to be handed over.

He said this while speaking to reporters at the Airport during his visit to see the progress of the Velana International Airport development project.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Muizzu said the airport development project is an important project linked to the economy of the Maldives. The project needs to be completed soon, he said.

Muizzu also raised concerns about the delay in handing over project work, which needs to be initiated under the airport development project. He said that most of the work under the airport development project is still yet to be handed over.

In his statement, noting the completion of the terminal, Muizzu said that many works related to the terminal remain unfinished. Hence, the facility can be used only after completing the work and fulfilling requirements.

"For example, the service road connecting all these things has not been commissioned. It will take about ten months to complete the road. It will not be completed on the target dates unless the work is handed over now," Muizzu said.

Muizzu said that at the current rate of work, the airport development project would be completed by the end of 2025. However, he assured that the new government aims to complete the work by October next year, he said.
