The agreement between the Maldives government and India's Afcons on the Thilamale' Bridge was changed a day before the end of the Presidential term of former President Solih's government.

This was revealed at a press conference today to brief the public on the bridge work.

According to Construction and Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, a supplementary agreement has been signed with Afcons for the construction of the bridge. The agreement was signed on November 16, one day before the end of President Solih's term, as stated by the Minister during a press conference.

The Minister said the supplementary agreement stipulates that the bridge should be completed by September 30, 2026.

The Minister said the supplementary agreement had changed the various dates for completion of the bridge. The duration between the dates has been doubled as well, he said.

Speaking further, the Minister said out of the two sections of the bridge, the government is urging to expedite the section which connects Male and Gulheefalhu.

The Minister also said there was no intention of changing the contract, and the government intended to accelerate the work of the bridge.
