Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef met Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), on Monday. The Vice President was joined at the meeting by H.E. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the Vice President expressed appreciation for the technical support of the WTO to the Maldives and highlighted the Government's commitment to further cooperation and collaboration.

He spoke on the importance of restructuring the debt of Maldives and discussed ways to increase the inflow of foreign direct investment into the country.

They also discussed strengthening the Maldives' relationship with the WTO and exploring new avenues of cooperation.

The Vice President is currently in Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the high-level event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Human Rights 75).

The Maldives became a member of WTO on 31 May 1995.
