On Monday, H.E. Riad Al-Malki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine paid a courtesy call on Vice President H.E. Hussain Mohamed Latheef.

At the meeting, the Vice President and the Foreign Minister discussed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. The Vice President affirmed the Maldives’ profound solidarity with the people of Palestine in their struggle to achieve independence. He stated that the government of the Maldives, on multiple occasions, in the strongest terms condemned the violent attacks and Israeli aggression against the people of Palestine.

The Vice President reaffirmed the Government's unwavering support for the Palestinian people in their legitimate quest for inalienable rights, including self-determination. He also expressed grave concern over the Security Council's failure to act swiftly and decisively

The Vice President is currently in Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the high-level event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Human Rights 75).

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Palestine were established on April 4, 1982. The Maldives has held a long-standing position of support for Palestinian statehood.
