The Corrections Department has refused to grant relief to former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, serving a prison sentence.

A corrections spokesperson told Ras Online that Yameen's request conflicted with the Prisons and Paroles Act. However, the corrections did not disclose what he requested.

Yameen was sentenced to 11 years in jail regarding the V. Aarah lease case under the MMPRC scam. While serving his sentence, he was placed under house arrest on October 1 following the results of the second round of the presidential election.

The verdict in the Aarah case is currently pending appeal in the High Court. However, the High Court went on recess without deciding the case.

The appeal hearings of Yameen's 11-year prison sentence have now concluded. The next hearing will announce the verdict of the case.

According to the rules of the High Court, the High Court will be in recess from the last working day of the last week of November each year until the first official day of January the following year. Article 7 of the Courts Act states that the Supreme Court will also be on recess in December.
