Parliament member for Thoddoo, Mr. Ahmed Shiyan apologizes for his statement calling to allow selling alcohol in Islands following a public backlash against his statement.

Speaking at the recent Parliament Committee of the Whole House meeting to discuss the government proposed amendments to the Tourism act bill, MP Shiyan called to allow selling alcohol in the Islands. His statement brought a major public backlash.

However, with the huge backlash against MP Shiyan, he accused the media of misleading his statement and urged all media to maintain professionalism.

Speaking further at the recent parliament sitting, MP Shiyan said that the media reported his statement misleading what he meant. In addition, he apologized to the public for misinterpreting what he said.

Meanwhile, a clear video clip of the statement he made at the parliamentary committee meeting, calling to allow selling alcohol in Islands was circulated along with media reports. Which justified that his accusations against the media for misleading his statement are false.
