The opposition MDP has lost its super majority in the parliament after 13 MPs signed up to the ruling PNC on Thursday evening.

MDP members signed up for the PNC at a special gathering at Daharubaaruge. The members signed the forms and were accepted by the President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the President of PNC.

The signatories include:

1. Parliament Member for Maradhoo Constituency, Ibrahim Shareef.
2. Parliament Member for Feydhoo Constituency, Ibrahim Nihad.
3. Parliament Member for Machhangoalhi South Constituency, Ahmed Haitham.
4. Parliament Member for Isdhoo Constituency, Ali Hameed.
5. Parliament Member for Kanditheemu Constituency, Abdullah Shaheem.
6. Parliament Member for Kurendhoo Constituency, Abdullah Hakeem.
7. Parliament Member for Mathiveri Constituency, Hassan Zareer.
8. Parliament Member for Mulaku Constituency, Ibrahim Naseer.
9. Parliament Member for Nilandhoo Constituency, Abdul Muhsin Hameed.
10. Parliament Member for Maafannu South Constituency, Adam Ali.
11. Parliament Member for Komandoo Constituency, Mohamed Raashid.
12. Parliament Member for Thoddoo Constituency, Hassan Shiyan.
13. Parliament Member for Guraidhoo Constituency, Shaz.

With 13 MPs joining the PNC, the ruling main party has become the minority party in parliament, with 17 members in total.

The MDP, which maintained a supermajority in parliament, has dropped to 41 seats with 13 defections from 56 MPs.
