Former Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid has said that this is the time for MDP to come out with new hope for the people.
Shahid, one of the senior members of the MDP, said this on X (formerly known as Twitter) after 13 MDP Parliament Members signed for the current ruling party, PNC, on Thursday evening.
Shahid, who served as the Foreign Minister in the last MDP government, said that the MDP is the oldest and most honored party in the Maldives that was formed to fulfill the aspirations of the people based on democratic principles.
"Our party has experienced joys and sorrows, successes and failures. This moment is again to stand up for the country with new courage and new enthusiasm for the people. It is time to come out with new hopes and new goals." (loosely translated) said Shahid on X.
Shahid said the MDP's Yellow army will always be strong and courageous.
The MDP has been in a state of stagnation since it lost power. While many members have left the party, there is not much movement to add more members.
