The MDP has started working on drafting a law to make members who change their party lose their seats.

Speaking at a Press conference today, MP Ali Niyaz said that the party is discussing drafting an anti-defection law. The announcement came after 13 MPs left the MDP and joined the ruling party.

MP Niyaz said the party still has a majority in Parliament with 43 MPs. He said that MDP would retain the majority in Parliament.

He also said that the Parliament has seen it when governments change in the past, and no party has retained members in Parliament to the same extent.

At the same time, the anti-defection law is not being drafted because MDP members are leaving, but it is an attempt to reform the Parliament, said MP Niyaz.

The MDP, which started the 19th Parliament with 65 members, has now dropped to 43 members and has lost its supermajority in the Parliament.
