Tourist beds in the country need to be increased, as it aims to bring in 25 million passengers, stated the Chairman of Cyryx College, Mr. Ahmed Shareef.

He stated this after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu launched a megaproject to develop the Velana International Airport and economic zone to cater to 25 million passengers.

Regarding the megaproject on platform X, Shareef wrote that the country will have to increase the number of beds currently operating in the Maldives to cater to the 25 million passengers. He also highlighted the importance of the capacity development of people who will be accompanied to operate international airports.

"With a target of 25 million passenger capacity, the number of beds currently operating in the country will have to be increased. The capacity of international airports and the people who will operate them must also be built. With every investment, tax revenue will increase, business and services will increase, and the government should open up the space for private sector expansion," said Shareef, who is also running for parliament through an MNP ticket. MNP is also one of the political parties in coalition with the current government.

The mega project launched to develop the Velana International Airport and the economic zone will be the largest development project in the history of the Maldives. It is also expected to add many new services to the airport. According to President Dr. Muizzu, the project will transform the economy of the Maldives.

The multibillion-dollar project is part of a master plan for the next 20 years. Once completed, the airport will be able to handle about 4,000 passengers per hour.
