The Government of Japan has extended a grant aid totaling 326 million Japanese Yen (approximately 3.5 million USD) for the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Network Development Project in the Maldives.
This significant contribution was formalized through the signing of an Exchange of Notes ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, attended by His Excellency Moosa Zameer, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Her Excellency Takeuchi Midori, the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives.
The Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Project (DTTB) holds pivotal importance for the Maldives, aiming to enhance information accessibility and mitigate disparities among its islands. Beyond fortifying communication infrastructure, the project is poised to bolster resilience against climate change and natural disasters, making it a crucial endeavor for the nation's development.
Expressing gratitude for Japan's continued support, Minister Zameer underscored the collaborative effort's significance in driving socio-economic progress in the Maldives. He further acknowledged Japan's pivotal role as a key development partner and reiterated the Maldives' commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from various Maldivian ministries and organizations, including the Ministry of Finance, Public Service Media, Communication Authority of Maldives, Maldives Broadcasting Commission, Maldives Meteorological Service, and the National Disaster Management Authority. Representatives from the Embassy of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) were also present, marking another milestone in the enduring partnership between Japan and the Maldives.
