MP for the North Maafannu constituency, Imthiyaz Fahmy has urged Parliament to obtain the additional information highlighted by the Defence Minister concerning the attack on President Nasheed.
In response to a question posed by MP Imthiaz Fahmy, Defense Minister Ghassan revealed that the Ministry of Defense and the Maldives Army have obtained additional information concerning the attack on President Nasheed, which occurred on May 6, 2021. Minister Ghassan further assured the Parliament that he would be willing to share this crucial information if requested.
Seizing upon this opportunity, MP Imthiaz Fahmy swiftly took action by formally submitting a letter to the Speaker of Parliament, urging for the collection of the latest information on the attack and proposing that the relevant parliamentary committee be tasked with investigating the matter.
President Nasheed sustained numerous injuries following an explosion outside his residence on Neeloafaru Hingun which occurred on May 6, 2021. The explosion took place with a homemade remote-controlled IED, which was strapped to a motorcycle parked near President Nasheed’s residence. It was detonated just as President Nasheed exited his residence.
