President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has welcomed the landmark decision made by the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA77) to align the State of Palestine's participation in the Assembly with its participation in the United Nations. The President shared his approval on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, emphasizing the significance of this move for Palestine’s international standing.
In his post, President Muizzu expressed the Maldives' strong support for efforts aimed at realizing Palestine's full statehood. He noted that the Maldives was among the 101 countries that voted in favor of the resolution, which enhances Palestine's rights within the World Health Organization (WHO). He highlighted that this decision clearly indicates the increasing global support for Palestine’s aspirations for full statehood.
“The Maldives' support for this resolution reflects the strong support of the Maldivian people for the Palestinian people's inalienable rights to statehood and their full membership in international organizations,” President Muizzu stated. He further emphasized that this development is a crucial step towards achieving lasting peace in the region.
The decision at WHA77 grants Palestine a seat among the WHO member states, allowing it to make statements, submit and co-sponsor proposals and amendments. This enhanced participation is seen as a significant milestone in Palestine’s diplomatic efforts and a testament to its growing international recognition.
