Former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom asserted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu came to power by showcasing Yameen's influence and emphasized that this influence remains potent. Speaking at a rally at the PNF office, Yameen highlighted his critical role in Muizzu's rise to the presidency.

Yameen stated that the PPM and PNC leadership had granted him the authority to nominate the next presidential candidate if he could not run himself. He mentioned that he chose to facilitate the nomination process through democratic means, rather than leveraging his power for personal gain.

Yameen disclosed that he instructed President Muizzu to select Vice President Hussain Mohammed Latheef as his running mate and fully supported Muizzu's campaign. Initially, Muizzu had different preferences for his running mate, but Yameen insisted on Latheef and also proposed Defense Minister Mohammed Ghassan Maumoon as a suitable candidate.

Yameen noted that his wife also campaigned for Muizzu, further solidifying his support. He concluded by underscoring the strong impact of his endorsement and influence in Muizzu's successful bid for the presidency.
