Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef met with representatives from the American Bar Association Maldives Rule of Law Initiative (ABA MROLI) at the President's Office today. The discussion focused on strengthening collaboration between the government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to promote justice and address critical issues in the country.

During the meeting, the Vice President emphasized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s unwavering commitment to working with NGOs, highlighting their vital role in the nation’s progress. He underscored the Administration’s support for initiatives that drive institutional reform and address key issues affecting the nation.

Members of the ABA MROLI detailed their significant efforts in the Maldives since the NGO's establishment in 2021. They highlighted ongoing projects aimed at strengthening institutions through specialized programs targeting anti-human trafficking, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, financial compliance, health, and legal services for the migrant population. Additionally, they discussed their collaborative efforts with law enforcement agencies and the judicial sector to implement reforms.

Recognizing the vital contribution of the migrant workforce to the Maldives' development, the Vice President reiterated the Administration’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by this demographic. He mentioned recent Cabinet decisions to resolve migrant workers' issues, reflecting the President’s prioritization of their welfare.

The meeting concluded with discussions on potential areas of collaboration between the government and ABA MROLI. Both parties expressed a positive outlook on working together to enhance national progress through justice and the rule of law.

ABA MROLI, registered in the Maldives, is part of the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI), an international development program of the American Bar Association that promotes justice, economic opportunity, and human dignity through the rule of law.
