Abdulla Shahid, former Foreign Minister and current President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), sent his warmest wishes to India on its Independence Day.

In a tweet, Shahid congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and the Government of India, as well as the Indian people, on this significant occasion.

Shahid praised India as the Maldives' “all-weather” friend, emphasizing the country’s crucial role as the first responder in times of crisis. He acknowledged India's invaluable partnership in the Maldives' development journey, highlighting the generous development assistance and human resource support that has greatly benefited the Maldivian people.



The message underscored the deep and enduring relationship between the two nations, reflecting the Maldives' appreciation for India's consistent support and partnership.
