President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized the importance of increasing greenery and planting trees as effective and cost-efficient methods to address environmental impacts.

His remarks were made in a social media post marking World Ozone Day (WOD), which this year focuses on the theme “Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action.”

Earlier this year, on World Environment Day, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajida Mohamed launched the Five Million Trees Planting Programme, a major presidential initiative aimed at planting five million trees across the Maldives.

This ambitious project is the largest tree planting effort ever undertaken in the country.

The Five Million Trees Planting Programme underscores the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the Maldives’ delicate environmental ecosystems and addressing climate change. The initiative aims to mitigate both current and future environmental impacts, benefiting generations to come.
