Residents of Villingili in the Ga. Atoll can now have their ID cards printed locally, following the launch of the service by Home Minister Ali Ihusan during his visit to the island today.
This marks the first island in the atoll to offer ID card printing services, a service previously only available in Male'.
ID cards can now be applied for from anywhere in the Maldives via the Department of National Registration (DNR) portal, with residents able to collect their cards through their respective island councils.
In April, the government announced that Maldivians over the age of 65 would not be required to renew their ID cards once they expire.
