Abdullah Shahid, President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has emphasized that only the MDP has a comprehensive vision for national development, benefiting all Maldivians. His comments came in response to a media report quoting the current government, which stated that 69 percent of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport development is now complete.
Shahid highlighted that the development of Hanimaadhoo Airport, initiated under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, aims to enhance the northern provinces and the country as a whole. He described the airport as a key project that will transform the region into a significant hub for tourism and business, marking a new chapter in the development of Greater Theiladunmathi and other northern areas.
He reiterated that the MDP's vision is centered on nationwide development, asserting that the party is uniquely positioned to drive progress across the country.
The Hanimaadhoo Airport development project, supported by the Government of India, was awarded to JMC of India. The airport began operations last year, and Shahid expressed his satisfaction with the progress made on the project.
