The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has publicly named over 170 individuals and entities who have failed to pay the Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) and green tax owed to the state.
In a statement issued, MIRA revealed that these defaulters owe more than MVR 100,000 each in outstanding taxes.
The announcement comes after MIRA made repeated efforts to remind the tax defaulters of their obligations, including sending notices and extending additional deadlines. The authority emphasized that it had exhausted all avenues before disclosing the names of the individuals and companies involved.
To assist taxpayers, MIRA has implemented a system of automatic reminder calls. Taxpayers will receive notifications seven days before the payment deadline, three days before, and again three days after the deadline.
For those unable to make a lump-sum payment, MIRA has offered the option to enter into an installment payment agreement. Taxpayers who agree to this arrangement and adhere to the payment schedule will be assured that no further enforcement actions will be taken against them.
