The Finance Ministry has firmly denied allegations that this year's state budget has been depleted, clarifying that a total of MVR 37.4 billion has been spent on government expenditures as of September.
According to the Ministry, the approved budget for the current year stands at MVR 47.6 billion. As of September, the government has generated MVR 26.9 billion in revenue, with total revenue estimates for the year projected at MVR 33.5 billion.
With a total budget of MVR 49.8 billion for the year, the Ministry noted that MVR 39.2 billion has already been allocated in expenditures.
In light of the financial situation, the government is scheduled to present a supplementary budget to Parliament today. This supplementary budget, amounting to MVR 5.1 billion, includes MVR 1.5 billion for recurrent expenditures and MVR 3.5 billion for capital expenditures.
The Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that the supplementary budget is being proposed due to the existing state budget deficit. The government has a history of presenting supplementary budgets following fiscal year expenditures, including one for the upcoming year.
The Finance Ministry's announcements aim to clarify the current budgetary status and address concerns regarding the nation's financial health.
